Welcome to the NEW Kato CrossFit Blog! We will be using this in many different ways. This week we bring to you the Athlete Spotlight for the month of February!

This month spotlight is Kelly Tasky! Read a little more about Kelly and what she loves about KCF!

Q- How long have you been at KCF?

A- One year as of 12/13/18.

Q- What’s your why?

A- I work out to help control my anxiety. I found myself spending a lot of time in the evenings home alone after moving to a new city and away from family and friends. Having nothing to do to occupy my mind I often lost control of my thoughts and struggled to re-frame them into positive words leading to a lack of self-confidence, self-worth, and panic attacks. I played sports throughout childhood, high school and in college and always valued the time at practice or games to allow myself to get out of my head and thoughts and to experience the natural high of endorphins after a great workout.

Q- Would you rather be famous when you are alive and forgotten when you die or unknown when you are alive but famous after you die?

A- Unknown when alive and famous after I die. I don’t need to be famous to be happy.

Q- Have your goals changed?

A- Definitely! When I joined the gym my goals were set on specific movement or capabilities (such as being able to do a pull up or 10 push-ups from my toes without stopping), but now I find my goal is to make it to the gym 5 days a week. I have found that being able to do every movement is not what is important to me, but rather getting myself to the gym and giving it my all while I am there.

Q- Would you rather never use social media sites / apps again or never watch another movie or TV show?

A- Never watch another movie or TV show. Social media keeps me in contact with loved ones out of town and there are plenty of other things to do for entertainment besides TV or movies.

Q- What is different about KCF?

A- I am a dietitian and greatly value living a healthy lifestyle, but found social anxiety was inhibiting my ability to maintain a membership at a traditional gym. I decided to check out Kato CrossFit after hearing some college teammates has started CrossFit and loved it. As soon as I walked in the door, I knew it was a special place and very different from any gym I had joined in the past. The people are amazing and go above and beyond to check in on and care for one another. Rather than just coming to class and working out time is taken to get to know one another. Since being at KCF we have celebrated holidays and birthdays, supported people through cancer and loss of loved ones, and just been there as a class to listen to people when they had a rough day. Kato CrossFit it more than a gym they have become my Mankato family!

Q- What has been your best Result?

A- Increased self-confidence! I have struggled with self-confidence and self-worth for many years. I have never truly felt comfortable in my own skin, especially with the pressure of being a dietitian and needing to look a certain way to fit the role. I have actually gained weight since I started CrossFit and have noticed muscles that were not visible before, yet the same clothes still fit. CrossFit has taught me that the scale is just a number and that as long as I am eating right, exercising regularly, and staying mentally healthy the number on the scale doesn’t change who I am as a person.

Thanks for being awesome, Kelly!
